When to book
Newborns are typically photographed during their first two weeks to capitalise on this sleepy and curly stage. They love being tucked up feeling cozy and safe and are happy to sleep whilst I work with them, which is usually when they’re around 7 days new.
I limit the number of newborn sessions I book as babies very rarely arrive on their due date, making sticking to an exact date quite tricky! To avoid disappointment my clients usually book their session after their 20-week scan and call me as soon as the baby arrives to confirm/reschedule their placeholder date. It’s not unusual for me to receive an excited call from the hospital, which always makes my day!
I originally set up my business because I wanted to give parents a wonderful baby photoshoot experience. No rushing, no clients booked directly after you, no stressing about parking meters or how baby plus paraphernalia will be heaved from car park to studio (and definitely no clearing the decks at home to create a suitable backdrop). My studio offers off-street parking behind locked gates, two steps from the front door. Newborn facilities are second to none and there’s a comfy sofa for parents in full view of my working area plus a refreshments area complete with a coffee machine. No wonder parents love the set-up…
One of the most important differences between myself and ‘usual’ newborn photographers is that I’m completely baby-led. I work at a pace that suits your little one and allows plenty of time for feeding and cuddles, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy watching me work. I love hearing the “oohs” and “aahs” as I create each new setup!
