When you’re searching for a newborn or family photographer and not sure how to choose, reading my ‘how to choose a newborn photographer’ series would be a great start. It compares the various options available to you so you can make an informed choice. If that’s not me, I’m glad to have been able to help and if it is and you want to know what working with me looks like (the process), then please read on!
Your initial enquiry
This is exactly what it says on the tin. We have a friendly chat on the phone, talk about what you have in mind, your goals for the session (“I don’t know” is the most common answer here, so no pressure), I talk you through the process and naturally pricing.
If we sound like a good for each other we schedule your visit to the studio……
You come out to the studio, so you can meet me - interview me, grill me, do your worst – I’ll be one of the first people to handle your baby outside of your medical team and immediate family if this is a newborn photography session, so you cannot be too inquisitive when sussing me out. Often overlooked is the fact that YOU also need to feel comfortable with me. You may be feeling tired, emotional and a bit vulnerable, so you need to feel relaxed and comfortable around me!
Get to know me and my space
Naturally I’ll show you around so you will know what to expect on the day itself. I’ll show you the lovely products I have for you to choose from and we’ll start thinking about what you might like for yourself. I’ll go over detailed pricing so you know how much your wish list would cost you. We often have to tweak that a little to get into budget, that’s normal so don’t worry!
Plan your session
We also plan your session. I know if you want an album you’ll be looking for a story with lots of little details. If you’re looking for a hero wall portrait then it’ll be a particular shot that you absolutely want. Maybe it’s a wall collection which is somewhere between the two. Whilst you’re not commiting to anything at this stage, it’s helpful to me to know what you have in mind so that I can set your session up to achieve it for you!
Book your session
At the end of the meeting you can schedule your session and pay your session fee. I’ll send over confirmation so that you have everything formalised for your records.
The day itself! Turn up at your scheduled time and let me take the reigns. All you need to do is get here, I do the rest.
If it’s a newborn session I’ll have cloths, wipes and a charging station ready to go. You just need to bring your preferred brand of nappies and allow for more feeding than usual - being photographed is hungry work for a newborn!
Your viewing and ordering appointment
Around a week after your session you come to the studio, settle into the little cinema room and view you images for the first time. We select your favourites to fulfil the products that you’ve chosen and you place your order. You pay in full at this point.
I fine tune edit your chosen images, prepare them for print and order them with the relevant professional print labs.
Quality check & collection
When your order arrives with me I naturally quality check it, whilst mistakes or damage is highly unusual it can happen, so I catch anything at this stage. When it’s passed my rigorous testing I give you a call and arrange for you to collect it. An exciting day for all of us!
We cover all this when we talk anyway, I just wanted to give you a chance to know how it all worked first in case you’re reading this at midnight! If you’d like to get the ball rolling with your initial enquiry call, please get in touch.
